Bike Meeting

At the meeting last night, we discussed the 75 miler and most are not ready for that ride yet as the weather has been lousy and the training is not there yet for most.  What we would like is to postpone that ride until next Saturday or the first Saturday in the near future when you can lead it.  In the meantime, we will ride Dry Creek tomorrow at 9:00 am.  We will meet across from the Texaco Station in Lemon Cove.  Hopefully, you can join us,  this will be an easy and fun ride for most,  Pete

Saturday Ride Recap

Despite the predicted rainy weather, we left the water tower at 12:00 and had a great ride. Turned out to be a spectacular day in Yokohl, sunny, cool, but crystal clear. we had two more members come out for their first group ride of the year, Clint Walhof and Scott Kosteyk. Scott wins the "rider of the day" award hands down as he claimed to be a "rookie" but somehow seemed to be a veteran rider (possible sandbagger). Thanks to all who rode.

Next Saturday we will go at 9:00 am from the water tower. This is the last team training ride before the Blossom Ride so try to make it. We will go to the top of Blueridge as our final destination, you of course, may go as far as you like and turn back if you don't want to go to the top or leave from the tee at 12:30.

Once again, however, the weather may be a factor. Rain, cool, windy and possible snow forecast for Saturday forecast as of this morning. Spring will return eventually.

There will be another ride this Saturday at 12 pm from the Water Tower in Exeter. Get those bikes out of the garage and get riding in this great weather! Come enjoy the fun and fellowship with your other Velo Visalian Members.

Smile Train Ride September 11th

The Smile Train ride will be Saturday September 11. Please set this date aside if you can make it. We would like to ge as many members to ride in this event with our Velo Visalia jerseys on as possible. The ride is open to all so bring along as many friends and potential members as you can.

The 50 mile ride leaves the Lions Roping Arena in Three Rivers (North Fork) and works it's way down to Lemon Cove, up and over Rocky Hill and back to Three Rivers. Phil Vannette and I will work with the promoter, Kevin Foster, to come up with a 25 mile route for those who wish to go 25 miles.

The entry fee is $50.00 (or at least it was last year) and checks are made out directly to the Smile Train. The Smile Train is a national non-profit that sponsors surgery for children with Cleft Palate.

We would like to get twenty-five or thirty VV riders for this event. It is a good warm up for the Lighthouse Century.

You can check out the Smile Train on line www.smiletrain.org
